SACKMATES

Anna’s boxes are packed. Mark’s truck is an hour away. Sadie is not ready for her roommate to go.

Anna ends up in the red sack — feet first, then the rest of her. The fabric is tight enough that you can see the outline of her hands, feet, and face pressed against it while Sadie sits on the floor and talks her out of leaving. Every time Anna works a hand or a foot free, Sadie pulls the sack back over her. Toes get inspected through the stretch. The sack gets squeezed on the bed. Sadie tells Mark the move is off.

Anna almost makes it to the door. Then she’s a sack mate again.
